Instructor Ranking System

2025–26

Overview

To provide greater mobility, transparency, and fairness, the Stowe Ski & Ride School has redesigned the Instructor Ranking System for the 2025–26 season.
Your ranking is updated once per pay period and is based on several performance and qualification metrics.

This system is a decision-support tool only. It does not override Manager or Supervisor judgment.

How the Ranking System Works

Each instructor receives a Score, and then all instructors are assigned a Rank based on that score.

1. Score Calculation

Your score is calculated using the following weighted categories:

Certification Level (Highest Impact)

Certification level is multiplied by 5.

  • Level 4 = Ed Staff

  • Level 5 = Examiner
    Example: Level 5 × 5 = 25 points

Employment Status

Status adds a fixed number of points:

  • Full Time: +10

  • Part Time: +5

  • Holiday Help: +2

Requested Hours

Requested hours are divided by 5.
Example: 50 hours requested → 10 points

Worked Hours

Actual worked hours are divided by 10.
Example: 50 hours worked → 5 points

Additional Certifications (Bonus Points)

Specialization credentials add extra points:

  • CS1: +3

  • CS2: +6

  • FS1: +3

  • FS2: +6

  • Dual Cert (Alpine, Snowboard, Adaptive, Telemark, Nordic): +3

2. Ranking

After scores are calculated, all active instructors are ranked numerically (e.g., 1–300).

  • If two instructors share the same score, they receive the same rank.

  • The next rank number is skipped (e.g., two tied for Rank 5 → next rank is 7).

Why This System Matters

  • Ensures transparent, data-informed decision-making.

  • Supports equitable mobility throughout the season.

  • Allows evolving rankings as hours increase and certifications change.

  • Helps avoid ties in peak holiday periods.

Certification level and employment status have the strongest impact early in the season. As the season progresses and hour totals increase, requested and worked hours play a much larger role.
